Jesus Christ

I am the way, and the truth, and the life;
no one comes to the Father except through Me.

(John 14:6)

When embarking Christianity, your first, primary and supreme teacher must be Jesus Christ. If you are new to the faith, it is helpful to get a “red letter Bible”. These are editions that put all the words spoken by Jesus in red letters. The red letters are a good place to begin. Read and study exactly what Jesus said and let it sink into your heart. Once you have mastered the red letters, you now have a compass by which to measure every part of the Bible.

In the New Testament, we meet the earthly incarnation of Jesus Christ in the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Along with the red letters, the authors provide the context for the life of Jesus. Afterwards, from Acts through Jude, we see how the apostles, disciples, and other people took the teachings of Christ and shaped them into what is now called Christianity. Jesus reappears in the book of Revelation to give John a prophecy for the end times. Throughout all these chapters we see how the red letters shaped the faith.

All the way through the Old Testament, we see prophecies of the coming Mesiah, Jesus Christ, as well as stories that match the story of Christ. For example, Jonah was swallowed by a big fish and was in its belly for three days before he reappeared on the shore, alive and well. Jesus was crucified and put in a tomb, only to rise from the dead and leave the tomb three days later.

In essence, the Old Testament prepares us for the red letters, and the New Testament testifies to the truth and power of the red letters. If you embrace Christianity, you will discover that the ministry of Jesus Christ touches every aspect of our lives today. You will do well to learn His teachings, take His love into your heart, and walk always in the light of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Knowing your Bible will help you exercise discernment when you encounter teachers, preachers and ministers today. If their teaching is true to the Bible, you know that you can trust them. If they say things that contradict the Bible, you will know that you need to look elsewhere for true spiritual advice. You will do well to always measure your thoughts and beliefs against the red letters of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ taught that we should help the widows and orphans, feed the hungry, heal the sick, clothe the naked, welcome the homeless and alien into our homes, and comfort the oppressed and imprisoned. With that in mind, here are a few links to organizations you could support to show your love for Jesus.
