David Wilkerson (1931-2011) was an American pastor, evangelist, author, and above all, a man of prayer and action. In the 1950’s, he pastored a small church in Pennsylvania, but after reading a magazine article about gang members being prosecuted for murder in New York City, he became convicted by the Holy Spirit to go there and try to bring the lost youth to Christ. He is responsible for reaching many gang members with the gospel and preventing other youth from becoming involved with gangs. His journey is chronicled in his book, The Cross and the Switchblade. He founded the Christian relief organization Teen Challenge and Youth Crusades in the 60’s, and in 1971 spread his evangelism worldwide with World Challenge. In 1987, he founded Times Square Church in the heart of Manhattan. Wilkerson was a man of God who has left a lasting legacy that his worth studying and learning from. He will teach you how to pray, how to serve, and how to draw close to God.
